Bastün // FINE ART PRINT
This humble object has become a totem for Up There The Last. Bastün is the piedmontese dialect for “stick”, ubiquitous amongst the herders and transhumance traditions. These were taken leaning beside a cemetery wall half way up the mountain, as we paused to regain strength, eating cheese and salame made from the herd we were guiding up into alpine pasture. It is a timeless image that was there before us and will still be there when we are gone. A reminder of the deep heritage a simple stick can represent, and that whilst we wield the bastün, we are occupying a pre-defined role that will outlast us.
